Today was our first field day! Very exciting to be out on the ice. The approach was tricky, involving a 30 minute boat trip to the thin ice edge, unloading onto the shore, maneuvering our equipment along the snow and ice along the shore, and a wild snowmobile ride to the thick ice. Our departure was simpler but equally exciting — we got a ride on the airboat, a fan-driven boat that can cross water and ice with equal ease.
